Club rides and activities

Although there is a central committee responsible for the basic organisation of the club, most club activities are organised on a section basis. Currently there are sections based in:

ESSEX HAMPSHIRE LIGHTWEIGHT SECTION HEREFORDSHIRE
KENT LANCASHIRE LONDON MERIDIAN
MIDLANDS MOLEDEN (Surrey/Kent Borders) NEW ENGLAND (USA)
THE FLAT SECTION (Norfolk & Suffolk) NORTH LONDON NORTH ROAD (Bedfordshire)
NORTHERN IRELAND NORTHUMBRIAN NORTH HAMPSHIRE
OLD SOKE (Peterborough) RIPLEY ROAD (Surrey) SCOTLAND
SOUTH-WEST SUSSEX

Other events are sometimes organised by individual members outside of these sections and in other areas of the country.

There are also special interest/study groups within the club including:

The Dandy Chargers - Hobby Horses

The Lightweight Group - Lightweight and Classic Cycles from 1930 - 1960

The Bartleet Group - Pre-1930 pneumatic and solid-tyred machines

ACTIVITIES include day RIDES to suit all tastes. These include club rides suitable for all the family run at a very easy pace usually including refreshment stops, some longer distance rides plus other events for very old machines, lightweights and other specialist machines. There are also weekend and week long CAMPS with daily rides and other activities. The Club and its members are regularly invited to participate in PARADES and static DISPLAYS at shows and other large events around the country. There is also an extensive social calendar throughout the year including club evenings and dinners.

It should be stressed that the Veteran Cycle Club is a FAMILY CLUB where everyone is welcome, young or old. Many of the rides are multi-paced or slow paced so nobody need feel left behind.

Although certain special events may be restricted to certain types or age of machine, most section runs are open to any machine that a member wishes to ride, or thinks will interest other members.

Major Annual Events include:

Boot & Back March 2007

Boot & Back Bash - A speed judging contest

The Memorial Ride - Kidderminster

The Cambridge Fifty

Herne Hill Family Fun Day

Windsor Great Park Ride (for pre-1914 machines)
